There are rare instances in which Gladio sleeps in. While he doesn’t wake up as early as Ignis, the Shield does try to maintain a consistent morning schedule which usually involves some form of exercise or stretches to wake up his muscles for the day ahead; however, there are other times when the young man will throw all of that away to spend a few more extra minutes to sleep and recharge. This morning was one of those mornings.
Searching around, you eyed the black and white sandals sitting idly by the hotel’s bed, hiding but just barely poking out from the bottom of the silken bedskirt. You carefully slipped them onto your feet before snatching up the colorful array of beach towels you had stacked up by the bedroom door and rushed out to see Gladio standing by the opened front door. A pair of dark sunglasses hid his amber eyes away, but upon seeing you, he lowered them to the bulb of his nose and raised both eyebrows as his jaw dropped.
A whistle came from him.
“Am I looking at the same girl?” he laughed.
“Does it look bad?” you smirked as you directed your side towards your boyfriend.
I kinda strayed away from the “crush” aspect of it, but yes, this request… it did make me feel a little bit better. I feel like I should throw in a disclaimer that my ex’s worst offense was breaking it off over text – you know, based on true events but dramatizations are made for the sake of the narrative? Yeah, that’s what’s happened here.
Thanks for this ask, nonetheless. It’s been a good while since I wrote anything, and I’m glad to have finally climbed the writer’s block, however temporary the effect may be.
Noctis really didn’t like your current (past, now) partner, so he was undeniably relieved when you told him that you two weren’t in a relationship anymore.
Of course, this relief is eclipsed by the sheer worry and anxiety that clenches his heart when you call him sobbing and then show up on his doorstep still sobbing.
Logically understands why you’re so upset about everything that happened and is totally here for you but also emotionally doesn’t understand why you’re so upset about finally being free from that asshole
He doesn’t say anything along those lines, just comforts you. He does, however, make sure you know that he’s here for you and that you’re much better off without your manipulative-ass ex
He is so pissed when you tell him that the breakup happened over text. Calls your ex a coward for not even being bothered to say it out loud.
Orders your favorite fast food and your favorite dessert and binge-watches horrible comedies with you to help you feel better.
His heart aches for you, he wants to make you feel better, and will literally do anything you ask him to. He’s hoping you’ll ask him to go kill your ex, but you don’t. Sigh.
He sits with you, moral support, as you pick up the phone and delete and block your ex’s number. He would have done it for you, but he decided against it because he knew you’d feel better if you were the one who did it. It’s more satisfying that way, and you tell him that he was right.
You fall asleep in the middle of one of the shows, but he knows you’ll wake up cranky and hurting more if you sleep on the couch so he wakes you to gently usher you to his bed. He takes the couch instead.
His bad knee hates him for it in the morning, but his focus is completely elsewhere as he attempts to make breakfast for you. He barely managed scrambled eggs and toast, but it’s enough, and it makes him happy that you’re touched by his efforts.
From that point forward, Noctis is always there to reassure you and make sure you know that yes, your ex really was a dick, and if you ever see them again you should punch them on sight.

This post is a reaction to @ferix-writes‘s original post HERE. Please read it first it’s won’t make sense without it. I only made a separate post to be able to track responses better.
Hi there @ferix-writes! Please let me start by saying that I don’t want to hate on Gladio at all. Yes, I was mad at him in the first playthrough because I felt like he was kicking Noctis when he was down anyways but now I understand his reactions much better. He really was doing what he though was best.
The point I want to make and on which I don’t agree with you is that Gladio is more well adjusted than the other three. From as much as we know about him (and really any of them) mostly the player’s preconceptions fill out the void left by the writing of the game (that is not bad writing at this point, there just simply wasn’t time to show how they grew up).
But back to the point: We don’t actually know how much more well adjusted he is. All the other points of the other’s traumas that you’ve brought up are valid. But at the same time we don’t know what happened to Gladio’s mother for example. What we do know is that he’s always been beside his father since early childhood in the Citadel. He always looked up to Clarus and with all his will and strength worked on becoming the Shield of the future King. You could say that while Ignis is absolutely dedicated to Noct’s person Gladio is just as dedicated to the family tradition of the Amicitias being Shields. Of course he gets to like Noct later on, but he’d already been training for years before he even got became the Prince’s friend.
That being said it brings me to what Gladio’s issue is and it might seem strange at first: feelings of inadequacy because of low self-esteem. There are so many traits of his that point towards this. He’s always looked up to the heroes that he got to see ever since his childhood (oh and I’ll come back to heroes later): his father, Cor, the King, hell probably even Drautos. They were all putting their whole lives into their work. Now if Clarus was just as dedicated to his position (as we see in Kingsglaive that he never leaves Regis’ side) then I can see how a young Gladio might have striven to gain his father’s approval by involving himself in his work so early on. Clarus was probably away because of his work a lot. Glaido could become more the part of his life by becoming the part of his job.
Then even in Brotherhood we see his confidence and even more so in the game his clearly false bravado that he takes even potentially life threatening situations on with. He always makes it seem like he is the one who is the no-nonsense member of the team but he takes ridiculous risks (like fighting Gilgames, fighting Ravus, going into an exploding reactor…etc) and leaves the others in potential harm’s way (like leaving them to go alone to Steyliff Grove) because of the way he tries to deal with not being the best and the strongest. In truth none of the four boys (them being so young and all of them living in the very isolated Insomnia) really know how to deal with the situations that are coming their way but somehow the four of them together pull through. Gladiolus is no exception he just puts on a brave attitude for it.
Yet even through all of this ultimately Gladio is a follower not a leader. All his life he’s been trying to live up to people like Cor who’s been called “Immortal” since his teenage years. And this is the point where it can be understood why is he acting the way he does towards Noctis. Gladio sees Prompto as someone to protect, arguably he sees (and he sees it very well) that Ignis can lead but his emotions can compromise his skills to decide (see: the entirety of Episode Ignis), but Noct…Noct he expects to be able to follow. He lost everyone else he could follow at this point and he expect Noctis to live up to the ideals of his childhood heroes that exist his head. He wants to see what he thinks Noctis has to be but not because he wants to be a bully but because that’s literally how he lived his whole life and dealt with everything. By following and looking up to someone.
Now of course Noctis is not in the emotional state most of the time to be the King™ in the game (and very understandably I might add) and this tips the balance of Gladio’s world. And this is where he reacts with aggression mostly towards Noct and once towards Prompto. He respects Ignis more than to openly go against him that way but he’s still berating him harshly for allowing Noctis to act childish.
I always said that this game is really great at showing how people deal with loss through the four boys. It’s really hard to deal with losing so much in a healthy way. That’s why between the four of them the four most typical reactions to such pressure can be seen. Noctis becomes depressed and distant. Prompto is swallowed by his anxiety. Ignis represses all his outward emotions. And Gladio is lashing out aggressively. Now out of all these four Gladio’s reaction is not one bit more or less healthier than the other but it is definitely more active and visible. And I think this is why it might rub a lot of people the wrong way. While the others internalise their emotions and let them eat away at them Gladio just lashes out. He knows he has to be strong like his ideals so he can’t let anything weaken him. He can’t turn his anger inwards. He just puts it out on the worst possible person. (Again this is something that is completely understandable and a human reaction because many times helpless anger is put out people who are the least deserving.)
All in all I believe that Gladio’s reaction fits the way all of them react perfectly. Out of the four of them neither are perfect or better than the other and somehow I feel like that’s the point of it all too. It’s just hard to understand the way Gladio acts because instinctively the players themselves will feel attacked too and react defensively. (How many times do we try to understand if someone acts in a way that’s offensive towards us in real life? Of course it’s easier to condemn Gladio that trying to understand him) This is why his Episode is just as important as the others’ emotionally as well. Maybe SE didn’t succeed ultimately with it but they tried to show how Gladio’s trying to deal with his feeling of inadequacy. (Just like in Episode Prompto we see Prom overcoming his anxiety. And how in Episode Ignis we see him expressing his emotions freely without repression). Gladio fits this pattern. He’s just as good and bad as the others but for many he’s harder to understand.
Thank you for reading through all of it. And of course because it’s just an opinion you’re welcome to disagree. This view however helped me to put the characters’ actions and reactions to their place in my mind and possibly see the intention of the writers behind it.
One room. Two beds. Five people. Money was scarce, so you and the others had to make do with this arrangement. Ignis was kind enough to offer to sleep on the couch while you were left to share a bed with Gladio since he was the largest and you were the smallest in the group. The night passed without any trouble, but morning came, and Gladio woke up at the same time as you, face-to-face.
His heart skipped a beat when he saw you, your eyelids still heavy with lingering sleep and bedhead endearingly sticking out at odd angles that made him want to run his fingers through and smooth them out. The Shield unknowingly held his breath as he continued to stare at the dazed look on your face as you mumbled a lazy morning greeting to him, a tint of pink crossing his cheeks.
Despite owning the grand title of “Prince of Lucis”, he is no stranger to jealousy, and falls victim to it more often than he’d like to admit. Not that he has to outwardly proclaim he is jealous, you can tell at first glance. The pout plastered over his features and crossed arms, usually a show of his brattier side, is a dead give away of his true feelings. Noctis is a firm believer of “live and let live”, as well as valuing personal space and knows that everyone needs their distance, yet fails to follow through the motto when his arms end up around your waist and his chest pressed against your back. The perfect spot to glare at his so called “competition”. It is far less threatening than he would like, instead coming across as the neediest little frown.
Not that it’s unwelcome to you, he becomes twice as affectionate than normal, even after the person is long gone so it’s nice to take up the occasion of a needy Prince. Personally he finds himself a bit clingy, worried certain boundaries are overstepped once his rational thoughts catch up, but after multiple assurances from your end he won’t let go till you yourself ask him to stop.
Noctis doesn’t truly know where the spouts of jealousy come from, especially when someone manages to grab your attention where it was previously all on him. Insecurities of sorts are at play, even if entirely unknown by him. The prince finds himself worrying somewhere along the line, things will mess up one way or another, all because he can’t seem to figure out how to go by certain interactions. Patience is very much limited, as well as something he feels you need whenever he doesn’t quite know how to go by something, and he is grateful for the care and understanding you seem to pamper him with.
Gladiolus
He claims to have no outward way of showing his jealousy, entirely self aware of the feeling and how silly it could be. You trust him, he trusts you, and loyalty was established from the very beginning of the relationship, so why should he be worried? Still he can be seen just so subtly puffing out his chest and crossing his arms, mistaking his tension for another show of “accidental” flexing. Though he does like to get a word somewhere later, some form of polite reminder to that person you two are very much in love and not interested in hookups. Again, politely. Clarus taught him better than to cause a scene.
His confidence helps keep the jealousy at bay, but he does have his rare occasions where he feels that little bit of jealousy. Those moments where you end up oblivious to someone else flirting with you, laughing at their jokes, he will feel that undeniable pang in his chest that urges him to calmly walk up and whisk you away. There can only be one person in this town who can make you laugh, and by the Gods will he make sure it is him first and foremost.
Not to say he doesn’t have any insecurities. Despite the nigh overwhelming aura of confidence, those little thoughts of self-doubt never fail to break through that shell. The fear of not being good enough always plagues him, be it stemming from his job or relationship. After all, what good is a shield if he is not strong enough? Isn’t the same ideal present in a relationship? Any and all assurances are welcome, whether the slightest smile when you lock eyes, or clinging onto him like an oversized teddy bear, he will appreciate it and give back to you tenfold.
Prompto
This poor boy is one walking anxiety, and is quick to make jealous. Someone that’s not him? Chatting you up? Throwing flirts your way? It simply does not compute with him. He embodies the form of a question mark, not quite sure where to place himself. A few compliments thrown your way are fine (and fully agreed with), but sometimes when they start piling up from the same person he can’t help but get pouty.
It is blatant through his whines, acting like a kicked puppy. He would even say he is one, kicked right in the heart, clutching the fabric of his shirt at his chest. A cheeky little dramatic show, yet cute from the way his eyes truly resemble that of a desperate little puppy. By nature he loves to cling to you, and this matter is no different. Hands wandering wherever they can to hold you close, resting his chin on top of either shoulder or head, whichever your height makes most convenient.
Prompto is made entirely of stress and anxiety as his biggest driving force. In the lowest of times he is one big insecurity over something so simple as him existing. He despises his lonely past, and the possibility that one day he might fall back to the deafening silence of solitude in his home is perhaps one of his biggest fears. The very thought of you one day deciding to break off any and all contact, leaving him back in his lonesome plays the biggest part in his spouts of jealousy.
If you give this man a simple hug and “I love you” every negative thought will melt away instantly and bring out his playful mood. If you’re smiling, he will most definitely be smiling.
Ignis
As someone who ends up choosing work over his personal life more often than not, he deems himself unworthy to feel such a silly thing like jealousy. How could he have the right to it when you’re left in your shared flat to your own devices with him absent till late hours of the night? Still, he cannot help but clench his fists whenever someone garners your attention more than he’d like. The fear is always there, no matter how much you assure him of your love, how he is more than enough, Ignis Scientia will always worry you will grow tired of his constant absence and find someone else who will give you the love and devotion you deserve. Not that he would voice those anxieties, not from distrust but from his own stubbornness.
He deems his demeanour nothing but stoic and composed whenever someone grabs your attention away from him, yet he seems oblivious to the glare locked in his eyes and lips ever so slightly curled into a small pout. At best he seems disgruntled, at worst his eyes cast curses sharper than his daggers.Any show of physical affection in public is so rare with Ignis, you can’t help but wonder when his hand wounds up around your waist, fingers digging into your clothes, urging you to bring yourself flush against him. Words of endearment are just as rare, so the sudden abundance of them as he addresses you is just as much of a shock, leaving only one logical conclusion for you. He is jealous.
Bring it up in public and he will deny it. “You are your own person, who am I to tell you who you can and cannot talk to?” Though if he could, as horrible as the thought is, he would love to have your undivided attention, especially when your time together is already limited. In private it is always just two words. “Maybe so.”
Assurance will go a long way for him, especially in the form of shows of affection here and there. Running your hands through his hair, whispering I love you right before a chaste kiss on the cheek goes a long way. The cure to the storm in both heart and mind.
Lunafreya
She is an amalgamation of entirely confident, yet incredibly pouty and riddled with some stray insecurities endlessly prodding at her thoughts. Seeing you off talking and laughing with other people is fine, socialisation is part of being human, she should know and the both of you are your own person. But at the same time you are hers so why aren’t you in her arms this is a crime, please look this way let me see your smile. It is her greatest treasure, after all.
Lunafreya fails at masking her jealousy, the undeniable hints lying in her pout and glare through squinted eyes at whoever she deems to be too friendly with you. Yet her words remain as eloquent and kind as ever, a complete stranger to malice. No matter how stern it is, how can you find that pout anything but adorable and smile like a fool? That is precisely what eases those anxieties plaguing Luna and she instead becomes a blubbering mess.
Her jealousy stems from a far worse devil – the knowledge that her time is limited on Eos, with every little second is just that precious, and as unhealthy as it sounds to her, she clings onto it like every day is her last. The more time spent with you, the happier she is. At heart, she wants you to have as many good memories with her to look back for the years to come once she’s gone, and in return truly live her life to the fullest in your presence. The burdens of an Oracle are heavy indeed, and even a minute with you lifts the heavy weight off her shoulders.
Even but a kiss is enough to have her snap out of the jealousy. So is a hug, or a grin her way, even a silly little pet name she adores. Her heart is far too kind to cling to malice, more so when you are involved.
Ravus
“Ravus, are you jealous?”
He is offended at the thought, of him, High Commander of the Niflheim army, and former Prince of Tenebrae, jealous over some irrelevant little –
Yes. Very much so. His offence doesn’t come from just false accusations, but rather because it is true. You are among the little things he has left that bring him genuine joy, and every day he fears one way or another he will lose you like everything else. It is a vulnerability he doesn’t want any of the vultures from the army knowing, lest they use it against him in the worst way imaginable. This is a sort of secret he feels both ashamed of but trusts you most with to keep without putting him down for the fears. He will voice his doubt to you, praying you hope you understand the inner turmoil of his.
Ravus makes it too obvious towards his jealousy whenever anyone else manages to get a laugh out of you, or brush a hand against yours whether a genuine accident or not. While he is unaware, the glare that overtakes his eyes and the brows pulled into a frown is hard to ignore. A death threat painted over his features without even having to speak the words. Everything about his posture is strained, down from his jaw firmly clenched keeping back any vile spats to throw the persons way or the tension thick as tar in his voice.
There are many ways to reassure him, whether the dreaded (yet secretly loved) hair ruffle whenever you can actually reach that far up, or taking the magitek prosthetic and entwining your fingers with the metal ones, a silent assurance that he is still very much human in your eyes, and is loved regardless. Not that he knows how to exactly convey the same thing, after all this is the same man who panicked and said “Thank you” when you told him you love him.
Ardyn
He knows well how to hide his emotions when he feels fit, and jealousy falls right under that category but he simply doesn’t try hiding it. He will be incredibly petty about it, letting everyone in the nearest ten mile radius know that you are with him and anyone to attempts to intervene with that will be involved in an “accident”.
He classes his reasoning over jealousy not as petty however. A simple one, really. He is immortal and you are… well… not. Unlike him you don’t have the luxury of having quite literally all the time in the world, and every day is just ticking closer to your death and he is well aware to that. If not too aware. He intends to spend every waking second with you, sometimes whether you like it or not you will be stuck with his overwhelming presence, turned down a notch only by your request. Anyone who thinks themselves worthy to take that little bit of joy away from him infuriate him to no end.
Not that he tells you this, after all who would believe him if he were to say he is Ardyn Lucis Caelum, alive and most definitely not well after two thousand years. The only proof he has is his (stolen) royal arms and he would rather keep those a secret, even from you. Instead what he falsely admits to is simply pinning it down to his age. What if you find some young lad to suit your liking? So many others in the army to woo you need fending off before they get any ideas with such a proper lady like yourself. Or so he says.
Reassure him all you want, by the time you get to it all of Eos knows who’s courting you. Depending on his mood, either from the marks deliberately littered where your clothes don’t cover, or a simple, dramatic speech intended for all of Eos to hear. Despite the many loving words he manages to string in together, he somehow has a knack for making it sound ominous without context to whoever he is lecturing.

Noctis Lucis Caelum – Child of Hades
Ancestor of Hades, Ruler of the Underworld and the God of Death, Riches, and Darkness.
Supposed to be a bringer of supposed evil, one heavily tied to the potential end of the world, but it’s actually not true.
He’s not a bad kid. Lazy and passive, but he ultimately doesn’t like to get involved with business unless he really has to.
Contrary, however, he’s also quite altruistic – more rather helping others and taking care of them than he would himself.
He seems like your standard emo kid, but he’s got alot more depth behind him than he really lets on.
Prompto Argentum – Child of Apollo
Ancestor of Apollo, God of Light, Music, Art, and Archery.
A sunshine boy, quite literally in the sense when he’s the ancestor of the sun god.
He’s cheery and very enthusiastic about pursuits of enlightenment. From art, music, knowledge and more, he’s supportive of it all.
Supposedly Apollo was also the god of plagues, which can often bring forth alot of misfortune to those associated with Prompto and Apollo.
He tends to keep it a secret in case it might spark fear in others who have grown attached to him.
Ignis Scientia – Child of Hermes
Ancestor of Hermes, God of Trade, Thieves, Travelers, and Athletes, and Messenger of the Gods.
Perhaps one who can assimilate the best from royal and political matters into the mundane and modern lifestyles, mostly due to his knowledge.
A protector of those who travel, he’s ready to keep travelers and wanderers safe from the dangers on the road ahead.
He’s more witty than he lets on, knowing the right plans and strategies to outwit those who have devious or malicious intents.
Supposedly, Hermes is also the inventor of fire, an irony to the name that Ignis bears.
Gladiolus Amicitia – Child of Poseidon
Ancestor of Poseidon, God of the Sea, of Earthquakes, of Storms, and of Horses.
The ancestor of a temperamental god, Gladiolus’s temper can often get the better of him in the long run.
He can be as calming as the waters out on distant sea or as aggressive as a typhoon – unstoppable when he has a resolve to them all.
He has a strong affinity with some animals and with life around him, quite proud of the nature and sea that he’s surrounded by.
He’s been trying to control the storm within him, but it takes time, that’s for sure.
Ravus Nox Fleuret – Child of Ares
Ancestor of Ares, God of War, Violence, and Bloodshed.
He’s a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. And although he tries to have a strategy, his temper ultimately throws it into chaos.
Violent and powerful when fighting, he’s a force to be reckoned with as foes fall to his feet.
He’s generally unloved due to the wake of bloodshed that follows after him, making him more of a lone and bitter figure.
He loves dogs though, so it’s a good thing that Ares is usually represented by dogs.
Lunafreya Nox Fleuret – Child of Hera
Ancestor of Hera, Goddess of Marriage, Women, and Family.
She strives most of all to bring together a sense of peace through her potential marriage with the child of Hades, for that is her calling.
Sometimes is so dedicated to her tasks that she tends to forget that there are things in the way, angering her in the process.
Gentle and graceful, however, she remains an icon that many hope to become, for even she has her own powers and strengths.
She is sometimes associated as the Goddess of Kings and Empires, so many often seek her and her guidance on their way to the throne.
Ardyn Izunia – Child of Dionysus
Ancestor of Dionysus, God of Wine, Festivities, Madness, Ecstasy, and Theater.
Eccentric and theatric in his behavioral portrayal, he’s able to catch the attention of those who listen to his voice.
He’s got his own methods that ultimately create a sense of chaos every where he goes, but it’s all apart of his own devises.
Self-indulgent in his own journey for salvation and peace, he gets lost in his own ego and ecstasy to really care much for others anymore.
Probably also drinks alot. It’s a pass time because he can.

You make me feel vulnerable but not in a bad way. In a good way. Like I can finally let loose of all the layers and all the masks I wear and just be me with you.

you know sombra would’ve straight up just been cheering like Herrera did back in the day. i just imagine her suddenly grabbing McCree who was passively watching the game along with her and giving him the most aggressive kiss he’s ever gotten. then she shoves him away and goes back to staring at the screen, hollering and pumping her fists while Jesse sits there dumbfounded 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Stop thinking: “I’m not talented enough to execute this concept.” Start thinking: “I’m going to be a stronger artist when I’ve finished this piece.”
This is a fixed mindset vs. a growth mindset.
Your abilities are not static, and any challenges you have, anything that turns out different from how you imagined, is not evidence of failure, just a struggle towards improvement.
Sure! I’ve been busy with a big McSombra fic atm, but I’m hoping to get it done soon.
The first time Sombra ever slow danced was with McCree, but she didn’t tell him that until much later. It was nice to step on his feet and sway with no rhythm or rhyme, just listening to his heart beat.
McCree fell head over heels for Sombra when they started seeing each other again and again, but he was guarded because he both knows they’re flight risks. When they never really stop seeing each other, McCree almost didn’t want to believe she’d always be permanent. It was too hard to imagine her disappearing like everyone else in his life. She is just too important.
Sombra steals so many of McCree’s clothes, at this point, he’s not even surprise to find her draped in his serape.
They both love the way the other smells. From the foxglove to the smoke and pinewood, they have an addiction to the other’s scent.
It starts with the kids very carefully bringing McCree breakfast in bed, his favorite of course. Sombra makes sure everything gets there in one piece and McCree is already happy as can be.
He just wants a relaxed, nice day so after the kids give him a card (each of their names are messily scrawled inside with one purple heart from his wife) it’s a simple day.
McCree and Sombra end up swinging on the front porch swing, sipping on cool lemonade while the kids run themselves tired. When Noé, Ana, and Magdala have burnt themselves out enough to come and crash on their parents’ laps, they demand stories from McCree.
He tells about first meeting their little tiny faces and the dark fuzz ball hair on top of their heads. They all stare wide eye when he explains how it felt to pass them over to their mother. The stories keep coming until one by one, the babies are all drooling on their legs.
Before McCree carries Ana and Magdala, and Sombra carries Noé inside, Sombra presses a kiss to his cheek before telling him ‘Feliz Día del Padre’.

Hey I’m reblogging this again because if you need glasses here’s what I do:
Go to Costco/Sams Club/WalMart – wherever they’ve got that $58 eye exam. That’s with no insurance, btw. Just $58 cash on the counter, you get your eyes examined.
They’ll give you a copy of your prescription. ASK THE DOCTOR TO MEASURE YOUR PUPIL DISTANCE. If they don’t it’s not a huge deal, you just have to have a ruler around that has millimeters so you can measure it yourself and it won’t be as accurate but being off by as much as a centimeter isn’t a problem.
Make them give you a copy of your prescription – you are allowed to have this, they have to give you it, you don’t have to buy glasses there. If anyone challenges you say you need a copy for your records and you’re not going to buy glasses today.
Go to https://www.zennioptical.com/ and start looking at frames/glasses that you like. If you create an account it’ll let you upload a photo and based on your pupil distance the site will estimate how well various frames will fit you.
Add the frames you like to cart and start checking out – the checkout process will ask you for your RX details that will be written in the boxes on your RX page. It’s pretty intuitive to copy it over but if you get lost use the livechat feature on the zenni page.
Start selecting your glasses details. Your RX will determine what kind of lens you get (go with the one zenni recommends for materials and thickness) but your needs will determine the other stuff. I make sure to get the fancy oleophobic coating because I’m a slimy bog monster. I also get the cheapest pair of sunglasses possible because bog monsters hate the sun. You can get transitions lenses or anti-scratch coating or super lightweight lenses or whatever works best for you. The extras will add up in cost but you gotta do what you gotta do – my life is much better with a pair of sunglasses than it is with some clip-ons for my regular glasses; your life may be better with transitions lenses instead of carrying a second set of glasses. DO WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU.
Don’t bother paying the rush shipping, this is going to take two weeks regardless.

If the fit isn’t perfect see if the place that did your eye exam will adjust the fit for you. They often will free of charge.

It costs less for me to get two pairs of bifocals, one tinted and one clear, with special coatings and nice frames than it would cost me to get one pair of single-vision glasses from Warby Parker.
The cheapest frames available for adults on Lenscrafter’s site is $69.95. That is JUST the frames, not the lenses. The lenses are like $200. The anti-glare coating is like $70. THE ANTI GLARE COATING IS FREE AND INCLUDED WITH YOUR PURCHASE AT ZENNI. Just the frames and the coating at lenscrafters costs more than my two pairs of glasses AND my eye exam.
I can’t articulate how many literal headaches Zenni has saved me because I just used to wear my old prescription until I had trouble keeping my eyes open from the strain. Now at the first hint of eye strain it’s like “Not today, Satan!” and I can plan for the $100 expense that’s going to last me potentially years.
Obligatory reminder that a ton of people have added but still, Zenni and other likewise sites (1-800-Contacts) require the prescription be up to date within a year. So yeah plan that in, any time you shop, that script has to be from within the last year.
I would also like to submit glassesshop.com because, though I shopped Zenni exclusively from 2012-2017, in the last six months I have gotten four pairs of glasses from GlassesShop, and still paid less than a hundred dollars.
The key difference for me was that while Zenni was utterly eye opening (ha, eye pun), they rarely do sales, and GlassesShop is constantly rolling through a variety of sales. There is almost always a wide selection of glasses on Buy One Get One Free promotion, and the free pair includes the lenses, no matter what add ons are on there or whatever kinda prescription you got, as long as its the less expensive pair.
They also do weekly specials where rotating selections of frames go on clearance-rate pricing, from $6.95-12.95. This is just the tip of the iceberg of the constant variety of sales, promotions, and discounts they offer, and doesn’t include that, also unlike Zenni, if you have an account every purcahse you make accrues points which can be applied in dollar amount to future purchases, even with discounts/sales/promos also applied.
Like Zenni, GlassesShop lets you upload a selfie to “try on” frames you’re interested in, but they have a much wider selection and variety. They take about the same amount of time as Zenni to craft and ship your glasses, and they’re on par as far as quality and accuracy of prescription goes.
I will always be grateful to Zenni for opening the door for me on the online glasses market, because as someone netting less than 20k a year after taxes glasses used to be a “upon pain of death/causing a car accident from blindness” purchase but have become a “well that’s a great sale and I LOVE those frames… I guess I could do with another pair of glasses, there’s $30-50 in my budget!” kind of thing, and that’s incredible.
But I probably won’t be switching back, as after having made multiple purchases, the only thing I like better about Zenni compared to GlassesShop is Zenni has better cleaning cloths.
Regardless, they’re two excellent, amazingly affordable alternatives to spending minimum of $100 at a brick and mortar glasses store, and I’ve turned into something of a proselytizer for both, because people deserve to know they have these options.
It’s bad enough we’re out here paying to see, but too many of us don’t realize we could be paying a lot less to see, and in the cutest glasses best suited to our tastes, instead of whatever’s “cheap” at WalMart.
also gonna throw out eyebuydirect, which does some great sales. I’ve gotten prescription glasses as cheap as $6 and prescription sunglasses for $20.
Ordered from both Zenni and Eyebuydirect before and a great experience every time. I just bought two new pairs from Eyebuydirect. I upgraded to their blue filtering lenses (didn’t expect a huge difference but woah, it was definitely worth the upgrade) and with the sale going on, I paid less than $60.

Inktober 2017, Day 30 ~ Ardyn Izunia (Final Fantasy XV)
I wonder where Ardyn will fall in my favorite Final Fantasy antagonist rankings in the years to come. At the time of me writing this, he’s probably in my Top 5. Regardless, I’m really excited at the prospect of the Ardyn backstory DLC. Heck, I excited for more FFXV DLC in general!
Anyway, one more Inktober drawing to go and the prompt is Artist’s Choice!! Aiming to finish it tonight, if everything goes as planned. I hope everyone is curious as to what I’m planning to draw~

I have not done something elaborate and realistic for a long time, it was very satisfying that I can still do it xD This time I played Ardyn in the game Final Fantasy xv, one of my favorite villains (I always like the villains who die, -crying-). But anyway, I had a lot of fun doing it, and I liked the result.
It didn’t turn out that bad, I guess? He still looks like he’s sleeping on duty, though… Well, cue the pissed-off ghost dad appearing from thin air to slap him awake and scold him to the next Friday in 3… 2…1…
