Escaflowne is one of my all time favourite animes since I was little and I have since been in love with this song. but am I the only one who finds this piece of music amazing because I know of no one who know of it 😀 I am in love with it. >< xxx
Yes, I did in fact end up donating to the Escaflowne Kickstarter… but NOT because I wanted a new English Dub (truthfully I am never thrilled when Funimation does new English Dubs because they keep recycling through their cast of voice actors so all of the anime ends up the same… plus I have such a soft spot for the original voice cast–Kelly Sheridan, Kirby Morrow–AND THE FACT that fuccboi Vic Mignogna is cast as Folken—like he could EVER HOPE TO MEASURE UP TO THE RICH, SEXY DULCET TONES OF PAUL DOBSEN I CAN’T EVEN *screeches angrily* GO AWAY I SEE WHAT YOU’RE DOING– trying to do the brother voice connection thing that you did in FMA funimation to gain fans STAHP IT. I once met Paul Dobsen at an Inuyasha signing JUST TO TELL HIM that my fave role I ever saw him in was Folken.) –I really wanted to see all of the uncut content. If you caught Escaflowne back when it was super hacked up when it had it’s run on Fox Kids–blegh. This will be your chance to see it in all of it’s beautiful glory. Plus, the Kickstarter comes with all sorts of perks like an artbook (which Nobuteru Yuki is one of my fave artists growing up so I MUST HAVE IT) exclusive packaging/special items, and my personal fave–Hitomi’s tarot card deck!
And YES the soundtrack was done by the super talented Hajime Mizoguchi and the FLAWLESS Yoko Kanno of Cowboy Bebop fame. Music is so good you guys you don’t even understand… and Maaya Sakamoto voicing leading lady Hitomi and singing all of the accompanying songs which if I remember correctly—this was her first voice acting role! She was doing it while she was still in high school. But Escaflowne was one of those series that I felt had everything that I ever wanted ever–romance, action, giant medieval robots, amazing story, wonderful, world building and endearing, nuanced characters–mystical and scientific elements mixed with historical figures….AND A MECHA THAT ALSO TURNS INTO A FUCKING DRAGON?!
This series still holds up pretty well, and it still stands as one of my top favorite animes of all time if not my favorite, period. I COULD SCREAM ABOUT THIS SERIES FOREVER. 10/10 would recommend!
It’s Escaflowne Week! And all I’ve had time to do is a super doodly Folken 😦
One of my art resolutions for this year is to draw more of the characters I like, even if it’s just doodles, so it’s in line with it. But January’s been so busy so far I barely had time to draw.
Yes, Escaflowne is getting a new dub. FUNimation has received enough financial support through a Kickstarter campaign to make it happen. The dub from Bandai & Ocean Group will cease to exist. Though I stand by my love for the original dub, I can’t wait to see how this turns out. Here’s who’s voicing who.

Klaus can’t even lay a finger on them, even if he’s about to be killed by his s/o. He can’t bear hurting them back. The least he does is defend himself, and try to push back his s/o.
He tries to snap them out of the trance, calling their name and telling them that it’s him and that he’s here for them.
The only thing he can really do to stop his s/o from fighting him or anyone else is restraining them, holding them down so they’re not able to move around much. He’d be trying so that he’s not hurting his s/o or suffocating them, since his greatest worry is their wellbeing. He can’t stand the idea of harming them. Many apologies are said to his s/o as he restrains them.
If by any chance whoever it is controlling his s/o is in sight, he’d demand and plead to let his s/o go. If not, Klaus himself will get rid of or at least break the mind control.
Steven
Desperately tries to snap his s/o out of the mind control. He’d be constantly calling out their name to them, telling them that it’s him and to please come back.
Steven can’t bring himself to fight his s/o. He dodges all he can from them, but he doesn’t lay a scratch on them. Steven can’t bring himself to hurt them. In the end, he forms a sort of icy cage/restraint around his s/o to stop them. As he restrains his s/o there’s this pain in his voice as he tells them that he’s sorry that he has to do this to them.
Steven knows that there’s a good chance that whoever is controlling his s/o is paying attention to him, so he warns whoever it is that if they don’t stop what they’re doing, he’s hunting them down and making sure that their coffin is one of ice.
Leonardo
Even if he’s about to be seriously hurt, or even killed by his s/o, he can’t make himself do any harm to his s/o. During the entire ordeal, he’d be yelling out to his s/o that this isn’t them, and that he’s here.
When all else fails, Leo can’t really do anything else except scramble his s/o’s vision a little and then try to restrain them. He’s whispering “I’m sorry” many times to them as he tries to stop them from hurting themselves or others.
If there’s any way he can immediately stop the mind control, such as tracking where the mind control is coming from, he’ll do it. If whoever or whatever is controlling his s/o is right nearby, then he’ll stop them himself. At first, he’d demand that they stop and let his s/o go. Of course, that won’t really work, so Leo will have no choice but to his his eyes in an effort to break the mind control. (He probably won’t realize his s/o coming up behind him to attack him-)
Zapp
Zapp doesn’t know what else to do except yell at his s/o to snap out of it, with his pleas becoming more and more desperate. He freezes up and defends himself at the last second whenever his s/o is controlled to land an attack on him.
He doesn’t have any other choice but to try and restrain them by tying them up with his ability, all the while telling them that he’s sorry for doing this to them. His apologies to them are pained as some tears threaten to spill.
At one point Zapp realizes that whoever is controlling his s/o can probably see him too, if whoever it is is controlling s/o from afar. (If they’re right nearby then Zapp’s gonna go and slice someone up) He’ll respond to this realization by telling the whoever is it through his s/o that he’ll kill them if they don’t stop what they’re doing to his s/o. He’d demand that person controlling his s/o, to let his s/o.
Zed
Zed is trying with all he can to wake his s/o out of the mind control, even if he has to push them back a little and defend himself from them. There’d even be a moment where he slips up and gets a small cut from them.
Despite the fact that Zed can most likely overpower them, Zed doesn’t have the heart to hurt them in any way. The most he can do is try to restrain them in the least, but hearing them cry out in pain from him restraining them with his abilities pains him.
Even if it’s hopeless to try and snap s/o out of the mind control, it won’t stop him from pleading his s/o to come back, and that he’s here for them. Zed would also mention to whoever or whatever it is controlling his s/o to stop what they’re doing immediately, or ah, consequences will follow. Zed won’t be afraid to go and stop whoever or whatever it is controlling his s/o.

real talk??? kekkai sensen is one of the most aesthetically pleasing anime
fuck made in abyss. fuck madoka magica. i want a gigantic modern city that’s hazy and gloomy during the day, but flaring up with colorful lights at night.
a city where half the population are weird and creepy monsters, while the main cast are genuinely pretty-looking partially human people. every character has such an awesome and iconic design.
it’s a weirdass post-apocalyptic new york city, and they captured that so well with the art design, music and small details in EVERYTHING.
THE SCENERY IN THIS SHOW IS JUST SO GODDAMN GOOD
and i love how the openings and endings are both upbeat but pretty serious at the same time, reflecting the show’s fast-paced comedy aspect while the plot itself is sad and dark
