Connor had been avoiding you lately and you didn’t
understand why. Usually, he’d be up in your face, constantly asking questions
about the case or sometimes even about yourself. At first, it irked you
considering the fact it was distracting you from your work which led to Fowler
scolding you. But, after a while you grew to love chatting with the android.
When he mentioned liking dogs, you made it your mission to tell him about the
fluffballs you’ve seen while driving on the way to work each day. You enjoyed how
his eyes literally sparkled when you told him about a dog in a purse.

But, now things were – different. He never spared even a
glance your way anymore. The only person he talked to was Hank (and occasionally
Gavin when he absolutely had to). You tried your best to get his attention, even
bringing photos of dogs you found on the internet to talk about. He didn’t even
care about that. He just gave you a
thin-lipped smile before telling you he really needed to finish working. When Connor
entered the same room you were in, he would immediately turn around, not bothering
to be subtle about it. Well, he didn’t exactly know how to be subtle anyway but
still. Work wasn’t fun anymore. You
had to drag yourself out of bed to take on the day with nothing to look forward
to.

Now, you sat in the break room, moping in front of a cup of cold
coffee.

“Wow, you look like shit.”
Said a voice to your right as they approached you to take a seat.

You looked up from your cup of liquid, seeing the face of
the one person no one could stand seeing.

“Thanks, Gavin.” You sighed, rolling your eyes and resting
your head on your hand. “You always know how to make a girl feel great.”

Gavin gave you a cheeky grin and a wink. “In more ways than
one.”

You pretend gagged, not wanting to have that kind of imagery
in your head.

He took a sip from his own cup of bean water, smacking his
lips. “So, what’s got you all smiles and rainbows?” He joked, nudging you.

Frowning, you traced the rim of your mug with a finger. “Well,
Connor- “

“Fuck no. Never mind.” Gavin got up at the mention of the
name, ready to leave the conversation.

You grabbed his arm, giving him the best puppy eyes one could
muster. “Can you please listen to my rant?”

The man perked up at the word ‘rant’. “You’re complaining about the tin can?” Sitting back down, he scooted
as close as he can, ready to pay attention. “Now, that’s a new one.”

You weren’t necessarily
complaining about Connor per say. You
just wanted to understand why he was acting the way he was. Although, it did
feel nice to get this stuff off your chest. He made snide comments throughout
the time but still listened to what you had to say. You explained to Gavin how
Connor started to ignore you after getting close to him.

He stopped you right after you said that, throwing his hands
up in front of him. “So, the dickwad is distancing himself after getting close
to you?”

You nodded, interested in what he thought of it.

He groaned, rubbing his face. “This isn’t happening.” He
whispered to himself.

You made a puzzled face at what he said. “What?”

Gavin didn’t understand how you couldn’t see it. It was blatantly obvious what Connor’s intentions
were. He held up his index finger in front of your face. “Rule number one of
the ‘Handbook for Men’,” He started before you cut in.

“Handbook for Men? What kind of- “

He made shushing noises with his mouth, stopping you. “Shut
the fuck up and let me finish. Rule number one of the ‘Handbook for Men’ is
that when a girl makes you feel something, you distance yourself.” He leaned
back in his chair, crossing his arms. “Men don’t ‘fall in love’. It ties them
down. They need to be free. It also keeps things interesting. Makes the girls come
running to them.”

You were even more confused than before you said anything to
Gavin. “That sounds like something you
would do. Connor’s not an ass like you. He actually cares about people’s
feelings for your information.” You said, regretting even talking to the man.

Gavin smirked, leaning forward, resting his arm on his knee.
“You’re wondering about the piece of plastic all the time, right?”

He got you there.

He threw his hands up, shrugging. “But, what the fuck do I
know? I’m only an ass like you said. I know nothing about men.” He got up from
the table before raising his cup at you, winking. “Obviously.” Gavin took one
last swig of his coffee, throwing it in the trash can and leaving the break
room.

Slumping in your chair, you didn’t know what to do anymore.
Maybe Gavin was right. Surprisingly. Connor could be avoiding you to avoid his
own emotions (because avoiding you just to make you come running back to him
didn’t seem like something he would do). The break room was empty, and you
silently wished it stayed that way. You just wanted to be left alone with your
thoughts.

Click!

The sound of the door handle being turned brought you back
to reality. Swiveling around, you were met face-to-face with the android your thoughts
were occupied with.

Connor paused when he noticed you sitting at the table. You saw
his LED turn red at the sight before him. Maybe he didn’t have certain emotions
for you. He could just hate you. But, why? That’s what you wanted to know.

“Oh, I apologize (Y/N). I must’ve walked into the wrong room.
I’ll be going now.” Connor mumbled, moving to shut the door.

“Like hell you are.” You shot up from your seat, practically
diving towards the door. You slammed it before he could leave, your body blocking
his path.

Connor stared at you, taking a couple of steps back. He wasn’t
expecting you to be here. He made sure to map out your schedule, so he knew
when to avoid you. But, he realized that he wasn’t going to get out of this
one. “(Y/N), if you’ll please-“

Oh, no. You are not going anywhere until you tell me why you’ve been avoiding me!”
You hissed, making sure not to draw in any attention from people outside the
room. The android looked to the side, not wanting to look at you. The action
made you even angrier. “You won’t even look at me! What happened to you?” You pleaded,
getting no response. “Why do you hate me now?”

Connor’s gaze snapped back at you, eyes wide. “I do not hate
you!” He corrected, taking a step towards you.

You glared at him. “What?
That makes no sense! You don’t avoid someone the way you did if you don’t hate
them!” You were practically pulling at your hair in frustration.

He went quiet, not wanting to tell you the real reason.

You crossed your arms, beckoning him to explain his actions.
Well? Spit it out!”

“You will not comprehend the meaning behind my actions.”

“Try me.”

Connor looked at you, a troubled look dawning on him. He
slowly approached you until there was little space between your bodies. “I was
not avoiding you because I hated you, it was because I- “

He paused, looking everywhere but you. You did your best to
make your head follow his eyeline, so his attention was on you and only you. “…It
was because I cared for you. More than a machine like me should.” He finally
said, looking at the way your eyebrows raised in surprise.

Your mouth fell slightly open. “The ‘Handbook for Men’ was right.” You whispered quietly.

You owed Gavin an apology.

Connor furrowed his eyebrows, not quite hearing what you
said. “Excuse me?”

You shrugged it off, laughing nervously. “N-Nothing. Why didn’t
you tell me this before?” You asked, filled with curiosity. Granted you were
excited this was happening but this was playing out very differently than you
imagined.

“My…feelings were not natural. I couldn’t pursue these emotions
knowing what I was.” Connor looked to the floor in embarrassment. “No matter
how badly I wanted to.”

A light blush spread across your face as you listened to his
explanation. Before you could stop yourself, you rested a hand over his chest,
feeling the synthetic heartbeat move a bit faster than normal. “Your feelings
are perfectly natural, Connor.” You looked up at him before adding, “And you
have every right to pursue them.”
Leaning up, you kissed the spot right next to his lips. “Give me a chance.” You whispered, less than an inch away from him.

The android watched your movements in wonder. He hesitated to
bring his lips to yours. What other emotions would ensue if he did? He didn’t
know if he was ready. But, then he saw your eyes. A beautiful shade of (E/C)
and he knew he was hooked. The pause continued, both waiting for the other to make
the first move. Connor decided that enough was enough and he closed the small
gap between you. All his pushed down emotions came to light through this one
kiss. You were so close that your teeth were practically clashing. Your hands
shot up to the back his head as his wrapped themselves around your torso. You don’t
think a human could even match up to the passion that Connor held for you. His
hands grabbed your waist, lifting you up off the ground as he led you to the
counter. He sat you down on top of it before he stepped back, breaking the
kiss. The man watched as your chest heaved up and down with a prominent blush
across your face. He loved it and he loved you. Connor’s hand went up to his
tie, loosening it as he stepped towards you again.

“You have no idea
what you do to me.”
