Things I love about My Hero Academia

yuyuhakushofangirl11:

  • The fact that the show is making some form of commentary on how shallow the Super Hero industry is becoming(save for a few exceptions, of course)
  • Has a dynamic cast of characters who all have their own shit going on and it’s not about the protagonist all the time.
  • Body Diversity.
  • Having most of the students have relatively healthy home lives and not falling on the trope of shitty parents or neglectful parents(at least in terms of Class 1-A)
  • Giving us a hero who is in touch with his emotions and extremely empathetic, particularly towards people who ‘may as well be quirkless’ and children.
  • Showing the double standard of Sexism aka the ‘Treat the girl as an equal!!!’ vs ‘You can’t hit her she’s a girl!!!’ argument.
  • Having the ‘bully’ character with a more realistic motivation, that being emotionally bolstered and praised for every little thing before realizing he was just a big fish in a little pond before high school.
  • Making the ‘bully’ character have some form of honor code. In real life some people are like this: Assholes but not Monsters.
  • Having the Superman/Captain America stand in being human and flawed like the rest of us.
  • Dadmight
  • Papa Wolf Aizawa
  • Addressing the controversy of having ‘Sexy Female Heroes’ vs ‘Strong Female Heroes’ in a very tongue and cheek way.
  • Not over-sexualizing the female students, at least not as bad as some anime *coughHighSchooloftheDeadcough*
  • Deku/Izuku as a character. While his constant crying is a touch grating in the first few episodes he grows on you.
  • Presenting a Hero universe with CONSEQUENCES.
  • Showing the dark side of Heroic Fame/Quirk culture
  • Having several categories of specialized heroics instead of the ‘Bash ‘n’ Smash’. I cannot stress enough how appreciative I am that ‘Rescue’ is treated as an honorable subset of Heroism, especially when paralleled to real life EMS and emergency workers.
  • Having a reasonably straight forward premise and execution.
  • Deku’s mom being drawn cute but chubby
  • Showing that facing villains before they’re fully prepared on a regular basis actually affects the students of Class 1-A psychologically
  • FROPPY
  • Having a villain with understandable motivations(Stain). Seriously, drop this guy off in the MCU and the DCEU and let him have a go.
  • Having Deku understand his motivations but not condoning it.
  • ERI-CHAN
