I recently saw an ask over on @theydonotbindus and decided to try my hands at writing a more serious topic. Every abuse situation is different which is why I made it as vague as possible. As an abuse survivor myself I tried to embody how I would want my partner to react as well as putting the boys’ personalities into it. This mentions no direct abuse, nor is there graphic detail, but I will still put it under a cut.
Hope you enjoy! I’m still learning how to not make my writing so bleh so I’m very sorry if it is. I’ll get better!
It started as a normal night. You and your boyfriend decided to stay in for the night. He managed to get out of training and you got off early. You leaned against him, feet tucked under your thighs on the sofa. The movie’s plot was lacking, but neither of you wanted to move to grab the remote to change it. You shifted slightly, now sitting on your knees, looking at him. He turned to face you, a questioning look present on his features.
“Noct?” Your voice was hardly above a whisper, a slight quiver present.
He simply raised a brow, cocking his head slightly.
“Can I.. Tell you something?”
He nodded, finally swallowing the candy he popped into his mouth. “Yeah of course. You can tell me anything,” his smile warmed your insides. It always did. His smile made you feel safe, happy, absolutely wonderful.
You looked at your hands in your lap. Tears welled in the corners of your eyes. You felt nervous, even though you had mentally prepared yourself for this moment since you had abruptly cut off a heated make out session a few weeks ago.
Your lips parted and closed again. You weren’t sure how to phrase it. Only when Noctis gently took your hand in his did you notice you had been silent longer than you planned.
He softly cupped your cheek with his other hand, encouraging you too look at him. His sapphire hues watched your eyes intently, as if searching for the cause of your grief. Softly his thumb stroked your cheek.
The gentle motion of comfort made your lips curl into a soft smile. You nodded once to an unasked question, confirming to yourself that you could do this.
It felt like an eternity had passed before Noctis said another word to you. Opening up your heart to him left him speechless. He was speechless you trusted him with your past abuse. He was speechless someone would do that to you.
He gently wrapped his arms around your waist, pressing his face to the base of your neck. You held onto him, fingers tightening on his shirt.
His soft words of apologies and affection kept you grounded.
“I love you,” he whispered.
Prompto grinned at you, his concern disappearing when you smiled softly. Unable to sit still any longer, he pulled you into a soft yet firm embrace. You listened to his heart. His heart was so soothing for you when your head was going 1 million miles a minute. He seemed to do just what you needed without even knowing you needed it.
Softly pulling away from his embrace, you watched his cobalt eyes. You could get lost in them, as cheesy as that sounded to you. It really was like the ocean was put directly into them.
“Did you need anything? Candy? More soda?” He held up the bag of goodies for you. Always eager to please.
You shook your head, hair falling over your shoulders. He was always so attentive. It calmed your frazzled nerves. You reached for his hand, stroking the slightly scarred knuckles. You stared at his barcode. He had told you about his background months ago. He had shared so much with you, but had asked nothing of you in return. He never pressured you to talk about your past, never asked you questions after the one night you told him not to ask anymore.
It’s never the right time to talk about abuse, you had always thought. However, you found the right time this night. Locked in a tight embrace you didn’t want to escape from, Prompto held you. Held you for hours. He cried more than you did. He promised to protect you. Even if he couldn’t protect you from the past, he refused that day to let anything harm you in the future.
Ignis leaned to you, pressing his smooth lips to your forehead. He has some type of sixth sense that knows when you’re teetering on the edge of upset.
Before you could open your mouth to begin your monologue, he shushed your unspoken words with a small peck to your lips. “One moment my love.” His words are like silk, wrapping you up and holding you tight in warmth.
He stood, stretching when he was finally off the sofa. You watched him with a curious gleam in your eyes. He didn’t ask you to follow when he made his way to the kitchen, but you did regardless.
Without another word, he warmed up a mug of cocoa for you and ebony for himself. He dressed your cocoa with whipped cream, just how you liked it. You took a seat on the counter, the stone cold on your thighs.
He carefully handed you your mug, setting his own next to your legs. “Tell me what’s on your mind, dear.”
How did he always know?
You eyed the whipped cream before taking a small sip of the warm liquid. Never too hot. Never too cold. Everything Ignis did was perfect, even the way he looked at you with such concern and love.
You set the mug down beside him and pulled him close, lacing your fingers together on the back of his neck.
Soft sobs echoed in the quiet flat. Ignis had carried you to the bedroom and settled onto the bed, you pressed tight against his side. He stroked your hair, your back, your arms, whispering sweet nothing’s and comforting words. He admired your strength. Admired that you were able to tell him something so personal. Your sobs slowed, quieted and eventually stopped. Ignis shifted slightly, wrapping his arms around you, holding your head to his chest.
“Thank you Iggy,” your voice barely above a whisper.
“Thank you, my love. Thank you for trusting me,” he kissed the top of your head, murmuring his words to you and himself.
You didn’t expect Gladio to immediately grasp your small hands in his larger ones. He didn’t always catch on to small signs that you wanted to talk, but he was in tune tonight. His amber eyes searched your face.
“Babe what’s wrong? Movie too boring for ya?” He grinned slightly, always using humor to bring your mood up.
You let out a quiet laugh and shook your head. “No Gladdy. Thats not it at all.. Well.. This movie is boring, but that’s not it.”
His smile faltered a bit, noticing the sadness in your laugh. He brought your hands to his lips, grazing your knuckles softly. You watched him with a soft, sad smile. He was so gentle with you. Always ready to listen and care for you. As much as he was a shield to the king, he was yours.
You didn’t cry. You didn’t even flinch when you spoke of your past. You were much stronger than people made you seem. If anything, Gladio was proud. Proud of you. Proud of how far your relationship had come. From a silly training session. To a first date to a book store. To the trust and love you had shared up to this point.
Gladio never released your hands. He never looked away from your eyes as you spoke. You were a goddess to him in this moment. The strongest of all goddesses. You had endured more than anyone ever should and you still sat before him with love in your eyes, strength in your voice.
“I thought I’d never trust anyone enough.. Love anyone enough. And here you are,” you finished your story of the past and smiled at him.
He could only smile back, the treat of tears in his eyes. “I’m here. I’m here and I’ll never leave.”
