I’m kind of stunned right now.
I’ve watched the scene of Ardyn and Noctis fighting “the war of attrition” for, like, the umpteenth time, along with the scene in which Ardyn vanishes, but I hadn’t watched until now the earlier stages of the fight itself.
I’ve watched two videos now and, while one of the interactions I’ve seen is kind of heartbreaking, that’s not the one that shocked me… I run into a video of that fight in which Ardyn said THIS:
“It is from my body the daemon spawn begin. Thence they go and make daemons of men.”
Ardyn? Uh… What?
And it’s after that that Noctis talks to him in that understanding way and says that he was “a kind and noble king” (in Japanese, Noctis says “oosama”, which if I’m not mistaken, means “Majesty”, or “king”), so it can’t be that Ardyn made all this made this mess consciously and tried to appear innocent (I think Noctis MUST have seen Ardyn’s past on the Crystal —which is something I’ve been writing a fic about since I love that idea—, because he acts so differently when it comes to Ardyn before and after the 10 years sleep).
I don’t think either that Ardyn would say this just to try to provoke Noctis, as much as the probability is there. It’s just weird. All the more because the German version of the console version explicitly says that the Starscourge came with Meteo.
This got me thinking A LOT in a very little lapse of time, because it contradicts many things yet, if they’ve added it so recently, all the more given the fact that news of Episode Ardyn must be close to come out, it has to be because of something…
I’ve thought on how to piece all of this together, how could this be explained, and I have a little, albeit very messy theory…
Maybe Ardyn could just heal people in general and, unknowingly, got infected by the Starscourge, and by going around healing people and other infected ones, ironically infected more people while the absortion of it made the Starscourge inside him stronger? Like as if it was kind of a twisted loop in which he’s an accidental “plague-carrier”.
Now, time for a little theory
that I wanted to add to the fic I’m doing.Remember the device that we see on the fake throne room at Zegnautus Keep, in which Iedolas had been? It looks AWFULLY similar to the device at the bottom part of the Costlemark dungeon… I started to think about the matter after realizing the similarity and hearing the comments that Ardyn throws at Noctis in Zegnautus (about being alone, being powerless without his “toys”…).
I have the suspicion that Ardyn’s brother used on Ardyn that same device that would later on be uses with Noctis, the one that blocks his powers (and that also works with Astrals). I’m saying this because, being as powerful as a Chosen One can be, I don’t think it would have been easy to jail Ardyn in Angelgard if he resisted… My guess is that his brother tricked him and blocked his powers in order to lock him there.
And I BET that the device was invented time ago by Solheim to block the Astrals’ powers and defeat Ifrit, regardless of the grade of success. Maybe Ardyn just got freed from his prison in Angelgard after the device just couldn’t just keep working after whatever time it would have passed?
