“Tales Of” References in Gintama Game Promotions

There’s been a small buzz in the JP Tales fandom in light of Gintama animating Chapter 430 of the manga (The Difference Between Godly Games and Shitty Games is Paper Thin), mostly due to the timing of the episode (a few days after Tales’s 22th Anniversary) on top of all the hype and speculation surrounding the Tales stream this December 16.

In light of that, @tales_antenna on Twitter did some research on where else Gintama may have thrown in a Tales reference, and dug up a few gems. Credit goes to them for finding all of these!

The phrase in question being, “Shoujo no tame ni, sekai o kowasu kakugo wa aru ka?” (Are you prepared to destroy the world for the sake of one girl?)

Aka “Expendable Pride”, which was translated to “Terminus Pride” in the localization. To that effect, Gintoki and Alvin share a voice actor.

This time, it’s Sougo that does the honors. Who coincidentally shares a voice with Senel Coolidge from Tales of Legendia.

※ Note: Chapter 430 doesn’t only parody Tales, but also a few other games and takes a dig at Bandai Namco. Who lets them get away with it, being that they own Sunrise (the studio that animates Gintama) and produce the games based off the series as well.
