I just realized something about Hunter x Hunter.

sleepy-savior:

Specifically, this part of the Manga made me realize this.

That is Ging, copying Leorios teleporting punch. He also explains the details of Leorios punch.

Basic version, Leorio can hit something, through the shock wave feel every detail of that thing, and then have a punch teleport wherever he wants within what he can sense. Ging explains that the ability is perfect for Leorios goals of being a doctor, because he could basically punch people, feel their cancer, and destroy it. He can punch peoples cancer out of them.

Now as cool as that is, what Ging does next is more amazing, and made me realize something. Ging, by understanding Leorios punch, was able to replicate it to sense and beat up a group of enemies.

This made me realize that everyone in Hunter x Hunter is an idiot. There is nothing stopping anyone else from doing this. But aside from Ging, every single character develops their own abilities and then just completely gives up on ever trying anything else. (Aside from Cheeto, who changed his ability twice, though the second change we never got to see)

They’re all idiots. Killua when he stole tentacles from Ikalgo? Could have just used Bungee Gum, it’s actually entirely his Nen type too so it’d be pretty strong, and super simple, Nen+sticky+stretchy. Gon could do that. Anyone could. I doubt anyone else could be as skilled with using it as Hisoka, but there’s nothing stopping them from just… Doing stuff with it. Or other simple abilities. Summoning a weapon? Sure, might only be 40% as strong as your main ability, but that could still be a pretty strong weapon. (Like, Killua could have just… Created Nen yo-yo’s, made them even heavier and more conductive. They wouldn’t be as strong as if a Conjurer had summoned them, but I’m betting they’d still be pretty strong.)

It just… Baffles me that this is a thing, that it occurs to nobody to just… Practice some simple other tricks with Nen. And I’m betting this is exactly why Ging is considered such a powerful person. Because instead of creating a Nen ability and training that, he just… Practiced Nen, can do a whole bunch of stuff, just a whole bunch of different abilities.
