I know there’s a lot of tension after Tumblr’s new policy annouced for December 17th, but reblog this if you aren’t leaving Tumblr so that other blogs can know they aren’t going to be completely alone!
This makes me really sad. Tumblr was the first place where I felt comfortable posting fan art and it gave me the confidence to keep improving. Even though I don’t post NSFW on my blog, I still think it is a grave mistake by the tumblr staff/ Yahoo to restrict all adult content here. Sure, I’d like them to crack down on the porn bots, but some of my favorite artists here do post NSFW content and it is extremely disappointing to see them go.
FYI I’m not going to be leaving tumblr… just know that you can find me and my art other places in case the website truly does die.
staff You are recommending that I follow a nazi blog I blocked last night. Your site promotes anti-semitism to Jews. Your site shoves Nazi Swastikas in the faces of Jews. It’s bad enough that the Nazi blogs seem to be sprouting up like weeds on a site that claims to have an anti-hate policy, but to actively promote them to people who have taken the steps of blocking these blogs is beyond the pale. Clean this place up. It’s turning into Stormfront.
I encourage everyone who sees this post, Jewish or otherwise, to reblog it. Tumblr has been ignoring the growth of Nazism on this site for too long. It needs to end.
any of yall who agree with the nsfw ban keep in mind: they aren’t doing it to keep the minors safe or to get rid of pedophiles. they’re doing it because they wanna be back on the app store. they give less than a shit about their userbase and dont think for even one second that there are good intentions behind this ban
In response to the NSFW ban being enacted by Tumblr Staff, on December 17th 2018 I propose that we all log off of our Tumblr accounts for 24 hours.
The lack of respect and communication between staff and users is stark. Users have been begging staff to delete the porn bot outbreak, which has plagued the website for well over a year. The porn bots oftentimes send people asks and messages, trying to get them to go to a website full of viruses. They also spam advertisements on others posts.
Users have also begged that Tumblr ban neo-nazis, child porn, and pedophiles, all which run rampant on the site. The site/app got so bad that it was taken off the app store.
However, instead of answering the users, Tumblr has instead taken the liberty to ban all NSFW content, regardless of age. But users have already run into issues of their SFW content being marked as sensitive and being flagged as NSFW, not allowing them to share their work.
Not only does this discriminate again content creators, but it also discriminates against sex workers. Disgustingly, the ban will be enacted on December 17 which is also International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers.
This ban is disgusting, and while I (and plenty of others) welcome porn bots and child porn being banned, the Tumblr filtration system is broken. It tags artistic work’s nipples as NSFW (when it is art), it tags SFW art as NSFW (when it is not), and does not stop the porn bots, neo-nazis and dozens of other issues.
This ban is discriminatory. This ban is ineffective. This ban is unacceptable.
To protest, log off of your Tumblr account for the entirety of December 17th. Log off at 12 am EST or 9PM PST and stay off for 24 hours. Don’t post. Don’t log on. Don’t even visit the website. Don’t give them that sweet ad revenue.
Tumblr’s stock has already taken a hard hit. Let’s make it tank. Maybe then they will listen to the users.

@staff you seriously need to rewrite the code on your algorithm
Gonna drop my opinion here on this really quick:
Tumblr could have avoided all of this with a simple easy code – called CAPTCHA. It’s not an expensive investment, and it’s easy to work into the code of a site like this. Sure, it might have been a little annoying to end users but guess what, bots wouldn’t have been able to flood the system as much, and you could have used/relied on your filtering system you had in place to catch the others.
The fact that tumblr is still relying on a algorithm just makes me shake my head.
YES its horrible how much of a bad rep it has. I’ve read so many incredibly well written stories and fanfic has been a wonderful tool to inspire me to create my own stories
Fanfiction takes you to another world where you feel like you belong. Where can feel safe and not judged, yet people want to take away our happiness by saying it’s gross and weird. There are some creative writers who have the ability to take you on a journey somewhere you dream to be, so why do people make fun of us for that?
