Ok, something I noticed while giffing Ravus, is this part:
I found it strange that he tries to smile, smile when in a few seconds he’ll break down sobbing for Luna not to go. Of course, being the Ravus fan who has no other purpose than to dig into him to find even the smallest hint of new character development I am, I wanted to figure out why.
It didn’t take too long before I realized something.
The only other time you see Ravus smile is in Luna’s scene, when he’s comforting her. Granted, some people don’t like this scene and call Luna a whiny brat, but I actually now have a counter to that statement.
Luna didn’t start crying until Ravus smiled.
Luna is being stubborn, and insistent. She wants Ravus to give Noctis the ring, she’s dying and it’s obvious. She’s reluctant to tell him she’s weak.
But watch what happens when he grabs her hands.
Her eyes flick about like she’s almost confused, and while I’m sure Ravus was in no means abusive towards Luna, he was probably cold and ignored her more often than not. Which is why him showing affection to her is something to make her unsure.
Which is why when he smiles and reassures his grip about her hands, almost like he was showing that he’s still there and will support her-
Luna ends up breaking down, not because of Noctis, but this time is because it’s the first she’s seen Ravus smile since their mother died.
I’ve seen a lot of people complain about how this is Luna just being upset she can’t see Noctis again, but I honestly don’t think that’s the case. If you also watch, it seems like she mouths ‘brother’ while she’s crying, which is also pretty interesting when throughout I can only ever remember her calling him ‘Ravus.’
But what does this has to do with Ravus smiling before cradling Luna? Well, here’s the thing, him smiling made her happy, it was her last memory of him, and he wants his little sister to be happy….so what else can he do but try to smile one last time for her?
