(reuben-loving anon here) there’s so much discourse about reudala but tbh i just want more headcanons about reuben and ashe. like.. when does she tell him or when does he find out that the organization they’re in is not exactly…legal? how did ashe or bob get him to try out his first gun? what do the mother-son (+ bob) pair do to relax in between heists? you’re always mentioning that reuben is a sweet boy to his mother, and i think that’s pretty cute!

ribbons-halos:

Reuben never really has a moment where he discovers what Deadlock really is, as Ashe is straight forward about things. He’s just always known that his mom is the leader of a bandit gang, and that she expects him to take over when she’s gone. It’s just a fact of life for him.

When Reuben is five, Ashe hands him his first rifle. They go out to the desert and B.O.B. sets up targets as Ashe teachers her son how to shoot. He takes to it easily, and enjoys shooting the glass bottles. Ashe compliments her little man on his aim.

For entertainment, they routinely play poker, and bet hard candies. From eight years and up, Reuben is a master card player. Whoever wins rotates evenly between Ashe, Reuben, and B.O.B, while the other gang members try to not lose their candies. They also have shooting competitions when a dry spell hits them for heists. Ashe eventually gets a new motorcycle, and often takes Reuben for rides down a long, barren highway. He loves the wind in his hair and watching the landscape run by even though it all looks the same.

Reuben is a sweet boy to his mother! They don’t have the usual open ‘I love you’s’ exchanges every night, but he knows Ashe loves him, and vice versa. They don’t need sappy words because to Reuben, actions have always been louder. Ashe isn’t the most emotional or open mother, but she’s never missed an important moment with him or ever made him feel as if he’s on his own.
