akechi is an aspiring trial captain, very goal-oriented, with high expectations for himself and others. he dreams of one day becoming champion (to get revenge on his absent parents, who repeatedly told him he was unwanted and would never amount to anything).

akira got in trouble in his home region on bogus charges and was sent to live with a relative in alola. he quickly grew bored and decided to become a trainer/embark on the island challenge to give himself something to do. despite not taking training that seriously, he’s a surprisingly good battler whose pokemon hold him in high regard.

the two of them got their starter pokemon at the same time and were rivals from practically the moment they met. they tend to be pretty evenly matched, but akira definitely has more wins. (akechi hates that)
