I only did one for the main four chocoboys because of how long it’s been taking me to do this prompt. So to keep you from waiting for so long, I’mma post what I had for it! Perhaps later, I’ll write more for Cor, Ravus, and Nyx. And perhaps not go too overboard with it again. c’: But I hope you enjoy the read, Sarah! Sorry for the wait!
Noctis Lucis Caelum
He’s perhaps the one
that really understands you the most compared to the others. Perhaps not in the
same way as you, but he understands how talking can be kind of stressful and
just how hard it is to say what’s on your mind. When he learns your story, he’s
very sympathetic with you – never forcing you to speak to strain yourself, but
sometimes forgetting that he might be asking you too many questions and
overwhelming you with noise. He gets nervous when you’re nervous, but he tries
his best to always reassure you that you’re speaking just fine – mostly VIA
thumbs up and little kisses because those speak measures more than anything
else. Or so he’s heard. And even so, the quiet with you and being able to do
dumb sappy things like holding your hand is pleasant enough for him – no extra
insecurities needed.
But when he overheard
someone criticizing you and how you were speaking carefully and cautiously, he
couldn’t help but frown in dismay. What was wrong about taking time to process
your thoughts before speaking? Sure, there might be a few stutters or a pause when
you process your thoughts. But if people were willing to be patient, they’d see
a different side to you that wasn’t defined by how well you spoke. They didn’t
have to be jerks about it.
But Noctis wasn’t confrontational
about it because he knew that going over and punching the people bothering you
would only be bad for both him and you. Princes shouldn’t go around punching
people. Gladio’s should. But he thought about it more before he took your hand
and kissed your temple before he led you right by the people bugging you. He
waved his hand in an almost melodramatic fashion with gestures bold enough and
a tone loud enough for everyone on the street to hear him. “How dare you! The prince
and his lover do not wish to listen to such ignorant fools!” Loud enough to get
them to shut up, but also enough to prove his point.
You
two turn the corner and out of view just enough for Noctis to get you out of
there and make sure you were okay. He knows that you have better things to do
than to dwell on what others, so he tries to find little things that can
distract you, taking you around the city more until you cheer up. Even if it’s
just a little bit. Besides, just because someone wanted to talk smack didn’t
mean that it should ruin your date, right? He’d make sure that your date night
from then on out was the best night of your life!
Prompto
Argentum
He
had to admit, he honestly never really found much of an issue in how you
articulated yourself and spoke. The fumbling of words here and there was
something he thought was rather natural in how you spoke, because everyone has
their speaking quirks after all, right? He always managed to catch onto what
you were saying, and he seemed ultimately shocked when you told him about the
speech therapy that you went through. Mostly because ‘Wow! I never would have
guessed! I love the way you talk!’ It’s flattering in a way, and it only added
to your self-esteem about your annunciation and vocalization.
That
is, until the gossip came to your ears and leaving you ultimately beaten down
by their words. Just because you had some hearing problems in the past didn’t
mean that you didn’t understand just what they were talking about. It left you
angrier than you wanted to be when you met up with Prompto to get ice cream
together. You wanted to be energetic and happy during date night, but it was
kind of hard to do so.
And
Prompto, no matter how airheaded he can be, wasn’t oblivious to your sudden
quietness as you two sat together. He asked you what was on your mind, in which
you told him about some of the things you heard when wrapping up from class to
meet up with him today. He couldn’t help but gawk, nearly dropping his spoon
from his mouth when he heard what was said. Really? Nobody should be judged for
how they talk, especially not you and your cute voice! And Prompto made it very
clear just how cute he thought your voice was. Probably comparing it to an
angel more times that you could count and saying that he could listen to you
all day so many times that your cheeks felt like they were going to melt.
It
was a bit comforting to hear Prompto go on such a tangent for almost an hour,
but he did make a good point that he told you during the conversation: wording
is hard. The fact that you’ve worked hard with speech therapy and talking often
with him was proof enough that people didn’t have the right to judge you. You
were making yourself a better speaker one step at a time, and he was proud of
you for that! You couldn’t help but smile and nod. Well… If Prompto was proud
of you, then you supposed you were doing something right, right?
Ignis
Scientia
Upon
hearing about the speech therapy that you underwent in the past, he couldn’t
help but find himself doing extensive research on the subject – for the sake of
curiosity and in case there was something special that you required to help you
beyond your speech therapy. You had to reassure him that it just took time to
adjust and figure out how to articulate yourself, and that just having him be
patient with you was all that you really wanted. An easy enough demand, but
Ignis was glad to abide. While implementing his own subtle ways to help you
practice your diction, of course – such as using various words for you to add
to your vocabulary and always suggesting reading with you aloud. Perhaps a bit
overbearing at times, but his care for you really was helpful in the end.
But
during one of your usual reading sessions at the café, you felt a bit uneasy as
you took note in the glances your direction as you tried to read from
Cosmogony. Your eyebrows furrowed as you gripped onto the edge of your book at
the people murmuring words, what you assumed was remarks about your fragmented
reading that you tried to improve on. You looked up at Ignis, who almost seemed
to notice the words and the discomfort on your face as you held onto the book.
You just wanted to go home and hide underneath your blankets for the rest of
the year…
You
snapped yourself out of your thoughts eventually when you felt Ignis reach out
and tap the top of your hand. You noticed that his eyes were closed, but he
eventually cleared his throat and spoke aloud. “Thank you for reading this for
me. With my deteriorating vision, I didn’t think I would ever get to hear my
favorite book ever again!”
The
simultaneous silence was enough to prove to Ignis just how awkward everyone
else in the café felt. They didn’t know you were reading to a blind man! Well,
you weren’t really. Ignis needed glasses, but you were pretty sure he could still
see. But you could sense the change in atmosphere as negative comments seemed
to change into a positive air. You could have sworn someone saying how it was
cute how you were reading to your blind boyfriend too, causing you to relax a
bit more now that the tension let-up in the air. The attention was shifted from
how you were reading to why you were reading.
You
smiled back at Ignis and took his hand into yours as you continued reading. All
to help a blind man, right?
Gladiolus
Amicitia
He’s
smarter than he lets on, but even then, he had a hard time understanding the
situation compared to the others. Yeah, he noticed the faltering in your words
as you stumbled over your diction, but he assumed it was you just talking
faster than you thought. The speech therapy that you went through didn’t really
make much sense to him, and it took quite a bit of explaining about your early
childhood before he finally began to understand where you were coming from.
Well,
kind of. He seemed to misunderstand a bit, thinking that your deafness was
still a hinderance to where he’d often just wave or make gestures at you until
you blatantly asked him, ‘What the heck are you doing?’ He just had to scratch
the back of his head awkwardly as he looked away. He just wanted to do something
to make you feel more at ease with your disability. It was kind of cute, to be
honest.
It
would take time for him to adapt, but he seemed to be doing well with it
nevertheless. He listened intently to whatever you had to say, helping you word
by word whenever you stumbled a bit or mispronounced something, but never
becoming exasperating when helping you. It was kind of fun, in his mind,
considering that he’s a secret word-buff.
But
it seemed as if people didn’t really have the same mentality as he did, for
when he overheard some teenagers gossiping about how you were rambling about
why you liked a certain type of milk, he was fuming. Really? At a supermarket?
They had the time to fuss about how you were talking? He frowned at the sight,
but you had to just pat his chest and tell him that it was okay. It’s not like
you weren’t used to the murmurs and chatter anyways.
Gladiolus
wouldn’t settle though. He only began cracking his knuckles before he turned
towards the others, putting on that macho expression before he began moving
over to them in long strides. That alone – seeing a behemoth of a man charging
at them – got them to flee like a herd of Anak. He was a bit disappointed that
he couldn’t actually tell them off, but he returned back to you and noticed the
laughter that came from you. What? What was so funny?
Well,
he was. You couldn’t help but fun it adorable how Gladiolus wanted to
straight-up fight someone just because you were being bullied. You kissed his
cheek and held onto his hand as you continued your debate on which milk to get.
