After I had a moment to ponder the fact that this was IN FACT very real, and sitting in my inbox, my inner child – who just had her 16th birthday by the way – had a fit, and she wanted to retort to name calling.
But, I ignored her, and then proceeded to do this for a good 20 minutes:
Now, that I am over my giggle-fit that you gave me [Thank you so much for that by the way] and I have composed myself to the point of rational thinking, I’m going to throw a few things out there for you:
Do you ever think you will be done with fandom(s) entirely when you reach a certain age? Honestly, I don’t think you will. You will continue to enjoy, consume, and possibly create all the things for the fandoms you love. So, guess what, until I’m no longer able to speak, thanks to voice recognition software, I’m pretty positive that I will continue to create stories, and will more than likely become your Fandom Grandma.
Will you ever stop doing the things you like doing because you’ve been told to grow up? Again, I’m pretty sure that anyone that happens to tell you that ‘You’re too old for something’ you will literally give them the biggest fuck you by continuing to do so anyway, right? So guess what. *grin* I’m not stopping either.
If you were in my shoes – and you got this ask – would you think there was malicious intent behind it? And if so, would you QUIT a fandom, or doing something you like because of one person’s opinion? I don’t see your ask as malicious, or mean – I see it kind of as someone that’s asking me a serious question – so while in the beginning I did make fun of your ask – I am at this moment, treating it as you are being serious. So here is my serious answer:
No. I am not and do not think I ANYONE is ever too old.
I will write, create fanfiction and my own stories probably well into my 90′s – if I do reach that age for one, [Again, Fandom Grandma. =p] And two I plan on giving out tips, pointers, and positivity till I can’t anymore.
And I’m sure one day, in all this, I’ll probably move away from tumblr to the ‘next best thing’ but will I ever stop creating/being in fandoms? Nah. [Also it’s *you’re, not your. And please, try to use proper punctuation. Stop being lazy.]
I’m sure that this is coming from the fact that I updated my about me page – and you saw how old I am.
So, Hello then Anon-San. I am a 40 year old fangirl, and I will never ever be too old to create Fanfiction. I will never be too old to contribute to a fandom that makes me happy. I will be within fandoms till the day I can’t contribute anymore, and honestly–I hope you do the same.
