Zenos eyes you with a morbid fascination. You, his little killing machine. You, the you that he adores! You, the only person who has ever been important to the Prince. What do you say?

You say nothing, simply glaring at the Prince as his smile fades to a look of resigned fate. 

“Oh, how this time could have been different, my warrior. Do you know how many times I hath seen this very moment? How many times I hath seen you deny me? For the Resonance itself binds my fate to circle forever. If only thou would break mine chains. If thou wouldst only…” Zenos glares at the lightly colored bricks that pave the garden. He glances round to the menagerie, to Shinryu. “Only the three of us, us anomalies… Only we are destined to continue this circle of death and rebirth, are we not? You, myself, this envoy of chaos. We are bound to each other, whether we like it or not.”

You are unsure what to say. This meeting feels wrong. You swore it would be different. You swore it would be an end to his machinations, and yet, you shed tears. In your heart, you too have known. You too are bound, helplessly, to the echo. 

“You understand now, as well, do you not?” Zenos raises his face, giving you but a sorrowful smile, “For we have performed this dance a dozen dozen times, perhaps more. We are old souls. Old, but having lived only once. Old, but having only known each other. In our next life, would you accept me?”

You feel your existence slip into ashes. You have failed again. You have remembered the song and dance and know the future is far too similar as the others you have seen. You hate it, this cosmic garden that grows the same every reset.
