DFADFSGdjfaklsdfdslfdkalf they really are! That first scenario pretty much sounds like it’d be them in canon ‘verse 😂😂 But the second one is a fun idea, too. Both are on a job when they first meet and they fall in love, obviously keeping their actual identities a secret.
Domesticity definitely isn’t their thing, as they quickly find out, and living a double life with an “unknowing spouse” can really make things difficult, leading to a lackluster marriage for almost five years (or six, but who’s counting?). So when their two opposing contractors finally get fed up with each other, they send Sombra and McCree out to kill their best agents. Little did they know they’d just end up seeing their spouse’s face through their scopes.
Then comes the oh, so fun part of trying to kill one another because it’s all part of the job. They manage to surprise one another with each failed attempt on the other’s life, cocky and secretly impressed with the skills they display but always ending with a taunt of either, “You’ll have to do better than that, guapo.” or “I’m hard to kill, darlin’.”
It all culminates on a night where Sombra reflects on the days before their marriage and all throughout it. She knows McCree is an assassin just like her but she also can’t help but think of him as Jesse, the man she’s woken up next to for the past five (or six) years, even if was a dull marriage. After another botched attempt on his life, McCree confronts her and the two “discuss” why their marriage failed. Sombra’s relunctance to open up, however, leads her to try one last time to kill him. After her failure, they take the fight back to their home, where they proceed to beat the living crap out of one another. But all that goes through their minds is how evenly matched they are.
Sombra knows she shouldn’t be thinking of the way Jesse smiles and stretches in the morning. And Jesse knows he shouldn’t be thinking that in this moment, seeing Sombra all bloody and bruised but so full of deadly intent, he’s never been more attracted to her. Eventually it leads to them having their guns pointed at the other’s face – but McCree hesitates. He can’t do it. His true refusal to shoot her touches Sombra, and she asks him why.
Hell, Jesse doesn’t know why. But he thinks it’d be a damn shame to kill someone who can keep him on his toes and make him bleed. And he’d hate to lose the woman he doesn’t really know but thinks he’s still in love with. She lowers her gun just slightly but it’s enough for McCree. He knocks her weapon out of her hand and presses her against the wall, kissing her like he’s never done and he feels Sombra reciprocate in kind.
Of course, it doesn’t take long for their contractors to catch wind of the couple making up and set out to get rid of them both…except no one could’ve ever imagined just how deadly McCree and Sombra are when working together instead of apart.
