15 reasons why I appreciate the match of Katsuki Bakugo and Ochako Uraraka

1: Bakugo calls Uraraka by her name. The only other people he does this for are Kirishima and Allmight. People who Bakugo really respect. Everyone else he gives them a childish nickname, “raccoon eyes”, “Deku”, “ponytail bitch”.

2: Uraraka was the first character who saw through Bakugo’s rage against Deku. That it was apart of his own fear of Deku’s potential. That Bakugo might be surpassed. That Bakugo’s perfect quirk, perfect potential, and fame would be taken by Deku. Also I noticed when Uraraka called Bakugo cool the background was black. This is a technique manga writers use to show that these words are important. Plus notice Bakugo did not interrupt Uraraka. Plus later in the Manga when Bakugo learns the truth about Deku’s quirk he admits to everything Uraraka is saying. All in all Bakugo is scared of losing because he hasn’t experienced losers streak. All throughout Bakugo’s childhood he was called a prodigy, he received countless praise and attention daily. That praise and admiration is deep in his mental makeup. So to speak, without it how can he define himself? How can he be OK with himself for that matter? Being told you’re a prodigy and amazing because of something you have (his quirk) isn’t a good mentally. It’s the same as someone saying “wow you’re so beautiful” all the time. That constant praise makes you feel frightened to lose it. If you do lose it, will you be less than who you are? Thus this explains part of  his ruthless do whatever it takes attitude.

3: Uraraka knows Bakugo’s ticks and is comfortable speaking to him about his issues. Uraraka at childhood saw struggle in her family life. Uraraka saw how devastating it can be to work for pennies all the while being loving parents. Uraraka is someone who can see through emotions of people. She’s someone who had to come to terms with her emotions at a very young age. Uraraka wants to help people. After her fight with Bakugo she learned that in order to help you must be strong in every way. Thus why she switched plans for the internship so she could get strength training.

4: Bakugo defended Uraraka against his classmates who called her frail. Mind you Bakugo has never done this. Also the fact that he is acknowledging someone who lost. Realizing that even though she lost she gave everything to win, and in turn she’s a winner and has Bakugo’s respect.

6: Bakugo lashes out at Deku for reasons that he thought Deku created Urarakas dangerous fight plan. When he discovered it really was all of Urarakas doing you see the next panel of him saying “what about her is ‘frail’?”

7: Bakugo was genuinely happy while fighting Uraraka. To then being seriously shocked and concerned when he saw her fall.

8: Bakugo was very angry at Shoto not going full power because he knew how far Uraraka had went! This girl fought till she went unconscious. Now this icy hot guy isn’t taking it seriously? I’d be angry too! (Manga panel shows her).

9: Bakugo takes Urarakas words into account. Especially when she calls him out on being scared of Deku’s potential. Bakugo just keeps thinking about her after the confrontation she gave him. I think deep down its because he knows she’s right.

10: I get some want to ship Deku and Uraraka. I ask why? Deku’s willpower inspired Uraraka in her fight against Bakugo, but Uraraka would have never gained any growth from her battle without the fight Bakugo gave her. If she fought anyone else she probably wouldn’t have learned something pivotal to her character growth. Possibly because her opponent would have seen her as “frail” or in need of assistance as the entire audience (even Deku) did.

12: Bacchako is a great ship because it’s slowly developing out of understanding and respect. Two things that are great in a relationship.

13: I feel like Deku is someone Uraraka admires. A lot of classmates admire Deku’s determination. Deku does give a drive to Uraraka and the others to want to work harder, but I don’t think he can bring out the best of her or others yet. Deku is the one who suggested Uraraka go after Ida, and not help him against Bakugo. That she follow his written plan against Kaachan in the tournament. Next that he didn’t really listen to advice she gave about the Bakugo during the rescue arc.

14: So now we can compare the two potential love interests of Uraraka. How fitting rivals in everything literally. For one I can see why Bakugo hates Deku. Deku is a nice person. By nice I mean he wants the best for his friends, family, etc. and he’ll do whatever it takes to ensure that, like trying to interfere with other peoples conflicts. I know he’s coming from a good place, but It sometimes comes off like he doesn’t really have faith in his teammates. Everybody has to struggle to win. If you stop a friend, or your child, or partner from making “mistakes”… you can set them up to make worse ones later. By being so concerned about saving people, he isn’t realizing that people have the ability to help themselves. You don’t always need to go into peoples decisions even if you think they’re making the wrong move. That’s how people grow… through mistakes!! Deku always wants to rescue people, but sometimes people need to make mistakes by themselves!! They need to lose too, after all that’s how Deku got so powerful right? I hope he realizes this in the manga soon! And for Bakugo it’s the opposite. Yes you can let your teammates, friends, and family make choices of their own, but you can’t abandon them completely. Yes be concerned with yourself in succeeding. However you can’t get their alone. A lot of the times we learn more through relationships than by ourselves. Bakugo, you’re gonna need backup and even a loss to know what it’s like to win.

*****Now who was the first character to address this to Bakugo? Uraraka, the second being Allmight (talk about a perceptive girl). Who helped Uraraka realize that she must be strong in every way in order to help others? Largely Bakugo did. As readers we have not seen Uraraka address Deku with his issues. However we have seen her address Bakugo, and frankly understand him better than Deku and Kirishima. In a relationship Its critical to be a perceptive partner and have open communication with them. Bakugo and Uraraka have this already developing. Uraraka with Deku has admired seeing him do superpower moves (win), he is nice to her, and she’s inspired by his determination. Uraraka with Bakugo was helped pushed to go beyond her limits as a hero and developed way more to her character. Also Uraraka knows his deep insecurities and isn’t afraid to address them around Bakugo. In fact Uraraka is one of the few girls who finds his rage funny, and she isn’t afraid to be around him. I dont think she notices Deku’s flaws but she can see Bakugo’s. I dont think she is comfortable speaking about insecurities around Deku, but she is comfortable doing it to Bakugo. 🙂

15: Maybe Uraraka is crushing on Deku at the moment, but feelings can change. I see it more as she admires him and she’s confusing that for love. Love is understanding, communication, being comfortable, and growing with someone. Who is Uraraka doing that with: Bakugo.  I wanna see more of an interaction between Uraraka and Bakugo. They have great chemistry, and both have grown huge character development through interactions they’ve had. They remind me a bit of Akito and Sana from Kodocha.
