Hiei during the Sensui Arc
Something that always bothered me about the Sensui Arc was that Hiei wasn’t shown much in many of the episodes which really bummed me out but there was a reason for it. I think Hiei felt embarrassed and hated being mocked by the people he trusts and calls friends. When he asked Koenma what class he was, it was as if he was trying to prove himself to them. Redeem himself in their eyes. Like “Yeah, Kurama and Kuwabara, I did do something stupid but I am useful. I am needed. Just watch, Koenma’s gonna say I’m an A or S class right now” and when Koenma said he was a B, he felt even more disgusted than he already was. Genkai saying he never uses his head probably didn’t help either. Kicked the man while he was down. That’s why I think he left anyway. He was angry that was all they viewed him as: A B class that doesn’t think before he speaks. Hiei is more then that of course (or at least to me anyway) but I believe he was really hurt. He felt betrayed even, throwing in the dig “You got your fox, your clown, and your hag. I’m a moot point” insinuating “You all think I’m irrelevant anyway so what does it matter if I help you or not?”
It was Yusuke who was the one that said “We need you, Hiei” and that’s exactly what Hiei was needing to hear.
This is only one of the many ways I or everyone can relate to Hiei.
