Imagine…
Living alone in a lush forest.
You lived so deep among the trees that visitors were rare. Well, human visitors at least. You had gotten to know plenty of magical creatures that also called the forest home, fairies of all kinds, the occasional elf, two satyr brothers that lived not to far from you (with the only other human here being thier wife), even the occasional elf.
And the centaurs.
There was a small village of them, living somewhere in Faun Forest. They roamed the land, hunting and harvesting and rarely interacting with other creatures. Centuars were such proud things, always looking down on everyone else. You understood it to an extent, they were terribly lovely…Especially Taranis.
He was small for a centaur, but strong too. His upper half was that of a dark skinned man, with a long black braid and deep brown eyes. His chest and arms sported intricate tattoos and he always had a quiver strapped to his back. The lower half was that of a dark brown horse, with white spots decorating the hindquarters and a long black tail. He was fast, one of the best hunters, and the most daring of the herd.
Maybe that was why he would talk to you, daring to do what the other centaurs would not. Or maybe he just liked to make you flustered.
“Human!”
You looked up from your vegetable garden, pushing away strands of hair.
“Hello, Taranis. What brings you to this neck of the woods?” You asked pleasantly.
“We’re fishing over by the river and I thought I would go for a run.” He replied.
A “run” apparently meant strolling over to your house and teasing you endlessly. You blushed at nearly all of his comments, wondering why this centaur was paying so much attention to you…and you kept wondering it too because Taranis kept coming back.
And not only does he continue to flirt, he starts bringing you gifts. A necklace with carved wooden beads, pressed flowers like you’ve never seen before, food he found around the forest. It was almost getting to be too much! It was late one evening and you were enjoying the last moments before a coming rainfall.
“Y/N!”
Taranis was galloping towards your cottage and fast too, a strange look on his face.
“We have to go. Come with me!”
He grabbed your hand and little too hard, pulling you towards him.
“T-Taranis! What’s going on?” You ask, pulling away.
“This is no normal storm. This is ancient magic. Everyone else has already fled, we need to get to safety.”
“But…where will I go? Humans are not permitted on your land.”
Assuring that he had already thought of that, Taranis asked you to come with him once more, telling you to ride on his back. It was an honor, being allowed to ride a centaur, and…you could tell that he was worried. So you agreed. You rode through the forest faster then you ever thought you could go, soon reaching a large cave.
“Here. Magic protects this place.” Taranis explained, entering the darkness.
Light soon filled it though and you saw warm beds and a cracklings fire, a supply of food and other necessities. It was cozy and warm, safe from the now crashing thunder. You leaped off of his back, smiling at the centaur.
“Thank you.”
He shook his head, placing his quiver and bow away.
“You don’t need to thank me. You needed to be brought to safety, to be warned.”
“And yet…you were the only one who was willing. You separated from the herd to do this you know…why?”
“Why?” He questioned.
“Why are you do kind to me? Most creatures here don’t care about one human. But you always go out of your way to show me kindness and now you’re protecting me. So, yes, why.”
“Taranis grinned, reaching out to you. His warm hand reached beneath your chin and lifted a little, making you look him in the eye.
“I have no idea why. I’ve been trying to figure this all out but…Y/N, I think you managed to steal my heart.”
“Oh?”
“Stealing from a centaur is a great mistake, you know. By doing so, you’ve agreed to work off a hefty dept…”
“And how can I do that?” You asked sweetly.
“Hmm…”
Taranis leaned low, stealing a kiss from your lips. It was warm and exciting and, oh, you wanted more.
“I few million of these might work.” He whispered, just barely pulling away from your lips.
“Then I had better get started.” You replied.
You kissed once more, neither of you caring about anything else in this moment. The rest of the world could wait until tomorrow but for now…it was just you and him and another perfect kiss.
Thank god the thunder god was in a foul mood…
