Story time, because I’m a bit emotionally compromised and it’s a long story.
So, at wondercon this year i ended up in line next to a guy who is a dev for overwatch. Back then he told me he was part of a mei short that they were working on and then asked if he could get pictures of my cosplay. I, of course, agreed and he proceeded to take pictures from lots of angles. The only strange request was him asking if I could take off the coat so he could takes pictures without it on. I had on the blue overwatch tank top I made under it (which he got a kick out of) so I again agreed. All the while he’s taking pictures he asks why I like mei (since I don’t main her) and I explain how alike the character and I are, especially when it comes to those I care about. When we finally get into the vendors hall we are about to part ways, I thank him for his work on the game and he thanks me for “my help.” I thought this was strange but just moved on.
Fast forward to now as I’m watching the new mei short, seeing Mei with my body type and everything finally making sense. All the mundane, random questions that I didn’t think much of suddenly filled with so much meaning. I have worn mei at a lot of cons and was thinking it was time to move on to other cosplays and retire this one, but these new revelations has definitely breathed new life into this one.
