jadistic-necromancer:

Fun tidbit I noticed while doing some regular character study! Everyone knows Jade is aware of his limits and has an almost dangerously accurate perception of himself, but…

I really appreciate that Jade refused to teach Luke how to control his hyperresonance. Not because he was upset at Luke, (though he was) and not because he doesn’t like teaching, (though he doesn’t) but because he personally couldn’t control the seventh fonon. When it comes to the seventh fonon he doesn’t compare it to controlling the others or really to anything else. That seems to be a consistent thing with Jade. Though he does well in recognizing patterns and applying his knowledge to other fields, he never assumes that he’s right.

I really admire this- Jade’s ability to know when he’s out of his league. The Colonel isn’t one I’m usually willing to emulate, but in this aspect I’m inspired to approach unfamiliar problems as actually outside of my area of knowledge. That doesn’t mean giving up right away, it means knowing your limits and accepting that. It means defaulting to someone actually familiar with the situation instead of trying to come up with your own assumptions.
