Here at last is a nice, clean illustration for the [ Destiny Star ] AU’s Commander Jade Curtiss.
The top image is his normal uniform, which is just shy of jade green. As in, jadeite. So for fun and at a friend’s suggestion, I tried a lighter palette, too. I felt that the lighter palette is a little too sharp and fancy looking for everyday use, but the “nephrite” alt colors work well as a fancier, formal/dress option.
One tidbit I haven’t really mentioned is that Jade’s typical ensemble here is actually two layers. The outer layer consists of the uniform jacket and the boots, but the inner layer is a sort of one-piece, specialized under-armor.
It is made of a space age material with variable selective permeability. In its normal state, it acts as an extremely light and breathable, but tough, fabric. It has some nanotech involved and is capable of re-sealing small punctures and tears. However, when activated with the push of a button, the material becomes airtight, a bit more like a plug suit. Jade can put on a helmet, which locks into place at the collar, activates a sequence, and the entire thing becomes a rudimentary pressurized suit for emergency use, in a matter of seconds.
It isn’t by any means the most comfortable kind of pressurized suit, since there is barely any climate control and no built in air supply on the suit (the helmet has one attached), it is certainly better than zero protection in a vacuum.
So the gloves you see there aren’t really gloves so much as underarmor. They do have specialized seams if he needs to free his hands. Putting them back on causes them to seamlessly seal back together. The effect would look a bit like one of those magnetic bug screens sealing up. There is a similar seam all down the front.
