So Harry comes to live with Snape in december 1985, and word gets out that The Boy Who Lived is at Hogwarts. This of course caught the attention of many of Voldemort’s followers, and the news even travelled so far as Azkaban.
Sirius gets wind of what’s happening and it prompts him to escape around march and find Harry.
They meet in april, Harry finds Sirius hiding on castle grounds under a bush, and befriends him right away. He keeps him at Hagrid’s. Sirius is pretty surprised that Snape is Harry’s guardian, and doesn’t like the idea very much.
Everything is relatively peaceful until may, when Harry is lured out one night by some Death Eaters. Sirius is with him, but he’s forced to reveal himself. He’s still pretty weak, so he can’t overpower the attackers, but thankfully Snape notices that Harry’s gone and the unusual lights coming from outside and comes to their rescue.
After that, since Sirius did protect Harry, they agree to examine his memories, and after determining that they weren’t tampered with, Sirius gets a trial and he’s set free. The ministry is on the lookout for Peter Pettigrew as a wanted criminal. Meanwhile at the Weasley’s Percy loses his pet rat.
Even if he acknowledged that Severus wasn’t all that bad, Sirius would still want to take Harry in, and it would cause some heated arguments. I imagine Sirius actually bullying Severus into adopting Harry officially.
Like he’d tease him about it and Snape, just really fed up with his crap is like: Bitch fine, I’ll adopt him.
And the more he thinks about it, the more it doesn’t make sense, but no going back now, he can’t be a spy again anyways since the word is already out that Harry’s been living with him. Besides, Harry doesn’t really seem keen on going away with Sirius either.
