On the phrase ‘Colonizer’ In Black Panther

Okay so I noticed while watching Black Panther(which was fucking amazing! Seriously treat yourself and go watch it. Do it. Do it now!) that a few white people took the whole ‘Colonizer’ thing between Shuri and Ross as an offense. Even though, as Tumblr will point out, I’m not allowed any opinions other than what’s approved by a board of esteemed members of the Social Justice board, I wanted to give my two cents. 

While I as a pasty ass white-y took no offense to it, in fact I thought it was cathartic considering Ross was acting like an incomparable ass and deserved to be verbally smacked around for a while,  some might consider ‘colonizer’ as insulting. This is because, quite simply, it’s a reminder.  A reminder of a nasty part of history that whites don’t want a part of anymore but can never escape because the repercussions of a handful of wealthy whites fucked it up for the rest of the population. Whites live with the guilt of our ancestors sins. that’s why colonizer hurts some people, because it isn’t a point of pride.

It’s a scar.
