Long time no see, eh? I originally just wanted to make some comrades timeline smut ft Gladio, but this story spun out of control and here we are. I am feeling very inspired and will hopefully have the next chapter up soon. ❤️ Enjoy, loves.

The night grows longer—a black sheet pulled taut against the sky, slivers of light straining to be seen through the stitch-work. But every day, the knots are cinched tighter by the hands of evil men. Every day, the sun slings itself into the sky in a fruitless attempt to be brilliant again. The rays of light that once twinkled against the rich blue of the ocean are now muted on cresting waves—waves that have become more restless at the whim of the deep blackness, restless against the soil that grows more barren by the day. The plants are wilting and so are the people. Smiling faces feel like a myth, a whisper on the wind, a secret buried beneath ancient ruins. All sweetness in this world, all goodness and happiness is lost to the culling the daemons bring with twisted smiles and black smoke.
You desperately wish to feel a smile tickling the corners of your lips again.Amidst all this sadness and heartbreak and loss—a chance at happiness. But as an Iron Giant lifts it’s weathered sword above it’s head, threatening to cleave you in two, you’re not sure you’ll ever be given that chance. You deftly roll to the side, immediately summoning your weapons, heart pounding as you eye the entrance to Lestallum. You don’t have time to warn anyone, or time to get help. It’s just you, and this mountainous beast that could turn you into mincemeat with a quick stomp of it’s foot.
With a knee bent, you summon your ice magic and lay your fist into the ground with so much force that the asphalt cracks beneath it. Ice flows from your hand and crawls up the giant’s leg like flame to a roman candle. It let’s out a low groan, beady eyes squinting, hand clapping against it’s head. “Brain freeze?” you murmur to yourself, looking pleased as you roll between it’s legs and slash it’s back with your katana.
“That’s bad,” a husky voice ridicules you from in front of the beast, broadsword slashing the giant’s weakened legs. It falls to it’s knees, an angered cry tearing from it’s throat. “And you should feel bad.”
You take advantage of the giant’s vulnerable position by continuing your assault on it’s back, blade ribboning through the air as you hack and slash. It pounds it’s fists into the ground, narrowly missing your mysterious ally. He dodges and retaliates more quickly than you’d anticipate for a man of his size, throwing his broadsword directly at the giant’s face. It smacks the sword aside like a child’s toy, but the man summons it to his grip before it even has the chance to touch the ground. “A glaive?” you find yourself asking aloud as you watch his ruthless assault.
He’s shrouded in darkness, the glint from the yellow-tinted Lestallum lights just barely reflecting off of his blade enough for you to see his distinct pair of scars. “You gonna stand there and look pretty, or are you gonna fight?” he growls out just before he twirls himself around with such weight that he acts almost as a riptide, pulling the giant in for slash after slash. The giant is severely weakened, laid out on it’s side, leaving it wide open for you to freeze and render lame—to finish it off.
But it senses you coming, and your eyesight in this level of darkness is hindered. It smacks you with the flat of it’s blade, sending you flying until you hit a nearby pillar. The impact from the blade alone has your bones rattling. You watch from the sidelines as the man who is unmistakably Gladiolus Amicitia uses his entire mass to thrust his blade right into the giant’s chest. You watch as the ground bubbles beneath it, black smoke consuming the dead weight until theres nothing left but his blade. And then everything goes dark.
